Pvt. John Tarasuk was seriously wounded in action in the Pacific area. Pvt. Tarasuk joined Co. F, 108th Inf. in Medina in late 1940. The report of his injury was the second casualty to be listed among the original members of Co. F. Pvt. Herbert Tanner of Yates was killed in action four days earlier.
John was one of four brothers serving their country. Nick was with the Navy in New London CT., Francis in the Naval Air Corps at Pearl Harbor, and Julian with the Navy in Chicago. All the boys joined their respective branches at the age of seventeen with the exception of Nick who was eighteen.
Pfc. Pat Heveron was wounded in action on the day of the invasion of the Philippines, after hospitalization in the Philippines he was sent for further recouperation in a San Francisco hospital.
Pvt. Heveron left Medina with Co. F, 108th Inf. on 24 Oct. 1940 and participated in the invasions of Guadalcanal, New Britain, Tarawa, Saipan, before the initial invasion of the Philippines.
