Staff Sergeant Howard F. Clark

A member of Co. F, 108th Inf., Staff Sergeant Clark returned from duty in Hawaii in April 1943. Again sent overseas, he landed in Italy early in February 1944, and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, seeing action at the Anzio Beachhead.

SSG Clark was killed in action in France on 20 August 1944, he was awarded the Bronze Star. His Citation states: For valorous conduct in action against the enemy. On 24 May 1944, near (???), Italy, at 1400 hours, totally disregarding enemy small arms fire that was missing him by inches, Staff Sergeant Clark harassed a position along a railroad bank which resulted in the capture of three Germans. SSG Clark was killed in a subsequent action in France.
